We had to get up at 4:30 to make it to terminal 5 for our 7:30 departure, but it all went smoothly. JP was waiting for us when we emerged from our flight in Milan. Together for Father’s Day, we made our way to the train that would take us to Stazione Centrale in Milan where we could get a train to Varenna.
The train took less than an hour, passing by Lecco and giving us tantalizing glimpses of the lake. When we arrived, we made our way down the one cobbled street to our hotel, Alberbo Beretta, happy to have landed and happy with the gimpses of the lake from our windows. We were all starved, so we headed out to find food, which we did in the tiny square in front of the ferry boats.
After we were sated, we explored the charming if a bit crowded village.
